The DEAL model can be used in a variety of settings NOT just in the kitchen.
You have to ask yourself a few questions to get started…
- What is the problem to solve?
- How am I currently addressing it?
- What is not working?
- What is working?
- What can I delegate, eliminate, automate in this situation in order to liberate or feel liberated to spend more time on what matters most right now, today, in this moment?
What you are really addressing is….
Finding ways/solutions/strategies to switch things up if you are getting the same results and expecting things to change. It is time to bring in the DEAL model and see if that can offer some relief.
My most recent non-food/nutrition (real life) example (and there is more where this came from)…
- Problem to solve: My kids teasing and arguing when one would think they should be having fun!
- Currently addressing it by: Yelling, getting annoyed, disengaging with them
- What is not working: My reaction
- What is working: Introducing a new way to do something they have done before or changing the “set-up”
- I “E”liminate (temporarily) the arguing and fighting and teasing by encouraging an art coloring activity outside on tree stump “tables” while providing a snack, which “L”iberates me to enjoy a lovely Sunday afternoon in my awesome backyard surrounded by beautiful trees with varying colored leaves, and a warm fire accompanied by a favorite IPA while watching my kids enjoy themselves.
Now what is one way you can think differently about a problem in your life that you would like to change?
